Willow Springs Haflingers is a small breeding farm located in Raton, New Mexico on the Colorado border. The picture above was taken during our first trip to Ebbs, Austria the center of the Haflinger breed for the world. As your interest grows for this wonderful breed of horses, you will want to visit this location also. We are currently standing ALPINE MIST MMS, a licensed and approved breeding stallion. If you have any questions on breeding one of your mares to him, contact me by cell phone at 719-680-1274, Mike Baker or contact me by e-mail at
k9sar@bacavalley.com Some might ask what is the Haflinger horse and why did I get involved in this breed of horses. Well it started when my oldest grandson(Jordan) became interested in horses and I went to buy him a Welch pony. I looked far and wide and could not locate one. In my search I contacted a lady whose name I can't recall now, who said that what I needed was a Haflinger. I had never heard of this breed before. I started doing further research and soon located one in Bayfield, Colorado. This was my first experience with this wonderful breed.I have been hooked ever since. That was in 2003 and we have had many different ones since. They are a great horse to ride and pack in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico, the area in which we live. As time has passed , I've tried to improve the quality of our horses and now have a licensed and approved Haflinger breeding stallion. His name is ALPINE MIST MMS and I have been riding him for about six months.I won't go into detail here about the history of the breed but would encourage you to do that on your own. We have been to Austria three times and visited Ebbs, where the main stud farm is located. It is a fantastic place and I encourage you to do the same.
